Connect Dexi to Gemini

MCP server · https://mcp.dexi.net/mcp

The Gemini app at gemini.google.com can use custom MCP servers through Developer Mode. Connected to Dexi, Gemini can search your notes by keyword or meaning, read them, and create or delete notes when you ask, asking you to confirm each change first.

Your notes are the same ones Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini CLI see when they’re connected, so something saved from one assistant can be found from the others.

What you need

  1. A personal Google account. We connected two Google Workspace (work or school) accounts as well: the connection completed, but Gemini never used Dexi’s tools in chat. Use a personal account until Google changes that.
  2. Developer Mode in the Gemini web app (the settings menu at the bottom of the sidebar). It may not be offered on every plan or in every country.
  3. A Dexi account — free at app.dexi.net, or create one on the approval page when you connect.

Setup

Add Dexi in Developer Mode

  1. At gemini.google.com, open the settings menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Developer Mode.
  2. In the Choose an app dialog, click Create new.
  3. Enter the MCP server URL https://mcp.dexi.net/mcp and click Next. Leave the client ID and secret under Additional settings empty: Gemini registers itself with Dexi.
  4. Google shows what the app will be allowed to do. Read it, tick I understand and accept the security and privacy risks of connecting this custom app, and click Connect.
  5. On Link your Google Account and [Custom] Dexi account, click Agree and continue.
  6. Dexi’s approval page opens. Sign in (or create a free account), choose what Gemini may access — everything, or one folder or tag — and click Approve. Turn off Create, edit, and delete notes first if you want Gemini to only read.

Use it in a chat

  1. With Dexi Notes selected in the Developer Mode panel, ask in plain words, for example “Using Dexi Notes, find what I saved about pricing.” Typing @ in the prompt box may also offer Dexi Notes as a connector.
  2. When Gemini wants to create or delete a note it asks first; click Allow once to let that one action run.

Try it

Try: “Using Dexi Notes, what did I save this week about onboarding?” — or “add a note to Dexi saying we chose Postgres for the queue, tagged #atlas.” The Developer Mode panel’s Event log shows each call Gemini makes to Dexi and whether it succeeded.

Troubleshooting

Gemini says it doesn’t have access to my Dexi notes

Check the Event log in Developer Mode. If the prompt shows 0 events, Gemini didn’t give Dexi’s tools to its model at all. In our testing that happened on Google Workspace accounts every time, even though the connection showed as linked. Connect from a personal Google account instead.

“We had trouble connecting to this server” after approving

We saw this on a Google Workspace account. Try again from a personal Google account. If it still fails, email team@dexi.net with the time you tried, and we’ll check the connection from our side.

Gemini read my notes but then stopped without doing what I asked

Name the note you want changed or deleted. Asked to “delete the last note”, Gemini looked the note up and then stopped silently; asked to delete the note titled “test123”, it asked for confirmation and deleted it.

Disconnecting

In the Dexi app, open Settings → Connected apps to see every app connected to your account and disconnect any of them instantly. Revoking access there signs Gemini out of your notes no matter what’s configured on the client side.

Frequently asked questions

Does Gemini need an API key or a client secret for Dexi?

No. Leave the client ID and secret empty: Gemini registers itself with Dexi, and you approve it on Dexi’s own sign-in page. Your Dexi password is never shared with Google.

How do I see what Gemini changed?

Notes Gemini creates are labelled with the app’s name in Dexi (it appears as “Google”), and the Developer Mode Event log lists every call. Gemini asks you to confirm each create or delete.

How do I disconnect it?

In Dexi, open Settings → Connected apps and disconnect the “Google” entry; access stops immediately. You can also remove it from Gemini’s Connected Apps page.

Is this the same as Gemini CLI?

No. Gemini CLI is Google’s terminal agent and has its own setup guide. Both can connect to the same Dexi account.

Other clients

Dexi works with any MCP client that supports streamable HTTP with OAuth — see the overview, or jump to a guide: Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, Goose, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, Cursor, VS Code, Smithery.
