Connect Dexi to ChatGPT
MCP server · https://mcp.dexi.net/mcp
ChatGPT supports custom MCP servers through developer mode connectors. Once connected, ChatGPT can search your Dexi notes by keyword or meaning, read them, and create or update notes on your instruction — grounded in what you’ve actually saved rather than the open internet.
What you need
- A ChatGPT plan with developer mode: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu (on the web).
- A Dexi account — free at app.dexi.net.
Setup
Enable developer mode
- Open Settings → Connectors.
- Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
Add the Dexi connector
- Back in Connectors, choose Create.
- Name it Dexi, set the MCP server URL to
https://mcp.dexi.net/mcp, and pick OAuth as the authentication method. - Save — your browser opens Dexi’s approval page. Sign in and approve.
- In a chat, enable Dexi from the + menu under developer-mode tools.
Try it
Try: “Search my Dexi notes for remote work research and pull out the main findings.” ChatGPT asks for confirmation before write actions like creating a note.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see developer mode
It’s only offered on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, on the web app. On Business/Enterprise workspaces an admin may need to allow connectors.
ChatGPT isn’t using the Dexi tools
Connectors are enabled per chat: open the + menu in the composer and switch Dexi on under developer-mode tools, then ask your question again — mentioning “my Dexi notes” helps it pick the right tool.
Disconnecting
In the Dexi app, open Settings → Connected apps to see every app connected to your account and disconnect any of them instantly. Revoking access there signs ChatGPTout of your notes no matter what’s configured on the client side.
Frequently asked questions
Does Dexi work with free ChatGPT?
No — custom MCP connectors require developer mode, which is a paid-plan ChatGPT feature. Dexi itself has a free plan; the restriction is on ChatGPT’s side.
Is it safe to let ChatGPT write to my notes?
Writes only happen on your instruction, and ChatGPT asks you to confirm tool actions in developer mode. The connection is OAuth-scoped to your notes and revocable any time from Settings → Connected apps in Dexi.
Why OAuth instead of an API key?
OAuth means no long-lived secret to paste or leak: ChatGPT gets its own credentials after you approve it on Dexi’s own sign-in page, and revoking them takes one click.
Other clients
Dexi works with any MCP client that supports streamable HTTP with OAuth — see the overview, or jump to a guide: Claude, Claude Code, Goose, Cursor, VS Code.
